Frequently asked questions
How long does my First Aid certificate last?
Your HLTAID011 Provide First Aid certificate is valid for three years. The CPR component (HLTAID009) within it must be refreshed every 12 months to keep the full certificate current in many workplaces.
Do I need to redo the whole course to renew?
Yes. Unlike CPR, there is no shorter refresher for Provide First Aid — you complete the full HLTAID011 unit again. Most providers offer blended delivery so the contact time is 5–6 hours, not a full day.
Is a workplace first-aid course the same as a community one?
Yes. HLTAID011 is the single nationally recognised qualification used for both workplace and community purposes.
Can I complete First Aid online?
Partially. The theory component is available online, but the practical assessment — CPR on a manikin, bandaging, use of an AED — must be completed face-to-face. Most RTOs offer a blended format to minimise classroom time.
